How can Snopes.com be trusted any more than any other info source? Who can we trust for accurate info?

KFC uses mutated, engineered, headless chicken-like organisms for their product. America destroyed the twin towers with explosive charges from the inside to convince us to go to war with Iraq to make the rich oil people richer. Etc, etc. Who really knows if these things are true or not? Unless you or I were there how can we know for sure?
