In the epic poem Beowulf, what is the role of women? Also, how does Grendel's mother exemplify it?

The main question is what role does Grendel's Mother play in the poem. I don't mean avenging her dead son and stealing his arm back... I mean the meaning she brings to the poem. Thank you in advance:)
