Whats the tone and ideas of this poem?

The tone is someone reflecting on the past ... remembering special times with their father. How his father finally made him bleed and maybe toughened him up a bit -- something he isn't sorry for. The idea is coming of age -- a father trying to make a man out of a little boy. He didn't say he was sorry. He wasn't then, but it sounds like Dad is gone now and he regrets not having that chance Pax - C
