Which should I go to, Yosemite or Sequoia?

My family will be in San Francisco for about 3 days. Both of these parks are very very far away and we have to decide between them. I've always been fascinated by Sequoia National Park since I was a little kid but I mean it's just... trees right? I mean it's nature, sure, but what else does it offer? I've heard Yosemite has more diversity but I'm not entirely too sure. If I have to choose between either of these parks, which one should I aim for (in winter)? Will either of them be closed during winter?
