The great Democratic president FDR faced horrendous problems, yet didn't enact socialism. Why did Obama?

FDR could have taken the country right into the socialist fold. In fact, he had economic advisors studying the German and Russian economic models for clues on how to fix America. But he rejected them. Along comes Obama, and he hoists the red flag and declares this nation socialist. What is up with that?
